“Exploring the Noble Eightfold Path” with Jane This Sunday at Minneapolis Insight

Dear Community,

(From Jane) I have been working my way through Phillip Moffitt’s Dancing with Life: Buddhist Insights for Finding Meaning and Joy in the Face of Suffering. And have now arrived at the Fourth Noble Truth: The Noble Eightfold Path, and to the realization that I have never really deeply explored this core aspect of the Dharma. Delving deeper into the Noble Eightfold Path has been inspiring and has made me want to explore these teachings with my “kindred spirits” at Minneapolis Insight and to learn more about how others experience the Noble Eightfold Path.

In the book Phillip describes the Noble Eightfold Path as “not a list of what to do if you want to become a good person. Rather, it is a matrix of behavior, understanding, and practice for finding peace of mind and meaning in your life.” He states that the Noble Eightfold Path is not to be approached conceptually, but rather as a living experience or an integral practice, a practice that is brought into all aspects of our inner and outer lives.

He states that The Noble Eightfold Path “is a path to finding freedom from the angst of your life and experiencing more joy. Implicit is the authentic possibility that you have the power to change your inner experience of life, and there is a specific means for you to do so. The realization of this insight evokes in you the faith to undergo the discipline, hard work, and renunciation that is called for.”

I look forward to gathering this Sunday to practice together and share our curiosity about and experience of the Noble Eightfold Path. I hope that you will be able to join us.
