“Freedom from Attachment to Outcome” with Jane This Sunday at Minneapolis Insight

Dear Community,

From Jane:  I am continuing to work my way through Dancing with Life: Buddhist Insights for Finding Meaning and Joy in the Face of Suffering.  In it, Phillip Moffitt offers practical advice on how to understand and live by the wisdom contained in the Four Noble Truths.  It is slow going because I often run across statements that cause me to set the book down, so I can further contemplate what he is saying.  In a chapter concerning the Second Noble Truth there is one such paragraph that I would like to offer for your consideration. (It feels like there is much to understand in just this one paragraph.)

Freedom from attachment to outcome allows you to connect to your intention in each moment. When you are living and doing what is right in this moment as an end in itself, regardless of the outcome, you are able to bring your deepest values into your life.  And when you are able to be fully present in the moment while aligned with your deepest intention, you live a vital and wise life, regardless of the challenges you may face.  Being present and staying with your intention are skills that come from learning to abandon clinging. Thus, abandoning clinging as the cause of suffering is both a result of practice and the means of practice.

On Sunday, I look forward to practicing together and learning what this passage may contain for others.  Does releasing our need to get an outcome we want really lead to a more vital and wise life?  How does this change our response to the challenges in our life?  How is it both the result of our practice and the means of our practice? Please join us.

Everyone is welcome! Registration and Zoom information are available here.
