Dear Community,
Sunday 10am Community Practice & Discussion
This Sunday, Benjamin will lead a practice and exploration of “Freeing the Heart from Its Burden of Self-Concern,” based the below passage from Guy Armstrong’s Emptiness: A Practical Guide for Meditators (pp. 273-274):
[Dharma practice cultivates] presence, interest, ease, and a relaxation that comes from not being fixated on any of the things that are being known. There may be pain in the back or a few wandering thoughts, but these are simply passing clouds in the vast space of knowing. There is no need to grasp them, first because the objects are so clearly fleeting, and second because no grasping would change the basic space of awareness we are attending to. The lack of motivation to grasp, or even to crave, brings a sense of lightness and relief to the heart, and a sense of freedom opens up. When the heart is freed from its burden of self-concern, many wonderful qualities can come forth ["responsiveness"].
… Responsiveness is an intrinsic part of the mind, but it cannot function freely when dense reactive formations like greed, hatred, and ignorance are present… [when] the moment is free from grasping or fixation… [that] is when the beautiful qualities of mind can come forth.
All are welcome to join this exploration on Sunday! Registration and Zoom information available here.
