Dear Community,
Sunday 10am Community Practice & Discussion
Last week, as we explored the First Insight of the First Noble Truth from Phillip Moffitt’s book Dancing With Life: Buddhist Insights for Finding Meaning and Joy in the Face of Suffering, we ended with reflecting on how helpful self-compassion can be in working with this First Insight.
Phillip describes the First Insight of the First Noble Truth (the Truth of Dukkha) as our ability to be able to carry the weight of the difficulties of our life, with dignity, rather than resisting, denying or collapsing underneath them. He goes on to say: “In the First Insight the Buddha asks you to carry your suffering without judgment and without resistance, to bear it with compassion and mindfulness in your heart. If you can learn to separate your resistance to suffering, from the actual pains and difficulties of your life, an incredible transformation takes place.”
Self-compassion can be a tremendous support as we explore what it means to bear the weight of the difficulties of our life with dignity, and with as much compassion and mindfulness that we can muster.
This Sunday we will continue our exploration of how self-compassion can assist us in bearing our suffering in ways that (as described in the First Insight) can be ennobling and transformative. We hope that you will Join us! Registration and Zoom information available here.
